Monfils & Dimitrov Headline Day 2 At Mutua Madrid Open; Read Preview

Gael Monfils and Grigor Dimitrov are among the notable names in action on Day 2 of the Mutua Madrid Open. Ten singles matches and six doubles matches will take place on Monday at the Park Manzanares in Madrid

Monfils, seeded 15th, starts his week against Italian Andreas Seppi. Monfils leads their FedEx ATP Head2Head rivalry 4-2, but they've never played each other on clay. The Frenchman is a two-time quarter-finalist in Madrid and has been in top form this season, defeating Stan Wawrinka this February to win the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament.

Dimitrov begins his Madrid campaign against American qualifier Taylor Fritz. The Bulgarian has produced consistent results this season, posting a 9-5 record and winning his opening match in all five events he's played. Fritz recorded his first third-round appearance at a clay-court ATP Masters 1000 event last month at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters.

Ninth seed Marin Cilic of Croatia and 11th seed Karen Khachanov of Russia look to turn their seasons around with a big week on the red clay. Cilic takes on Slovakian Martin Klizan and seeks his first win in two months, but will take comfort in leading his FedEx ATP Head2Head Series with Klizan 3-0. Khachanov faces in-form Spanish wild card Jaume Munar and is also aiming for his first victory since the BNP Paribas Open. Munar picked up his first Top 10 win last month over Alexander Zverev at the Grand Prix Hassan II.

Other notable matches include Monte-Carlo finalist Dusan Lajovic returning to action in an all-Serbian battle against Rio Open presented by Claro champion Laslo Djere. Juan Martin del Potro returns after a nearly three-month injury layoff by hitting the doubles court with Kei Nishikori. They'll take on Monte-Carlo singles champion Fabio Fognini and Robert Lindstedt.
