Mixed Double Déjà Vu: Dodig/Chan Defeat Pavic/Dabrowski To Win Roland Garros
For a second straight year, Ivan Dodig and Latisha Chan defeated Mate Pavic and Gabriela Dabrowski in the Roland Garros mixed doubles final. The unseeded duo clinched the title with a 6-1, 7-6(5) win over the No. 2 seeds on Friday afternoon in Paris.
In 2018, Pavic and Dabrowski had fought from 1/5 down in the second set tie-break to extend the match – eventually coming up short, 6-1, 6-7(5), 10-8. This time around, they were unable to force a decider after falling behind 2/5 in the tie-break. Dodig and Chan did not drop a set en route to the title, including a rout of top seeds Bruno Soares and Nicole Melichar in the semi-finals.

It was the second mixed doubles crown for both Dodig and Chan, who became the first team in the Open Era to successfully defend the Roland Garros title. It also marked the third triumph for the 34-year-old Croatian at the clay-court major. In 2015, Dodig won the men’s doubles title alongside Marcelo Melo.
Pavic and Dabrowski, the 2018 Australian Open champions, were also looking for their second mixed doubles title as a team.
