Del Potro Begins Rehab

Juan Martin del Potro has begun rehab on his fractured right kneecap after undergoing surgery. The Argentine has been completing three daily sessions with his physiotherapists, his team reported.

Del Potro, however, continues to use a brace on his right knee and crutches for overall support. His first goal of rehab is to make sure the scarring on his knee heals properly.

The 30-year-old Tandil native fractured his right patella during his first-round match last month at the grass-court Fever-Tree Championships. Last October, Del Potro suffered the same injury but was able to rehab it without surgery. He missed about five months of tennis, including the season-ending Nitto ATP Finals in November at The O2 in London.

Del Potro, though, returned to a full schedule in May and was close to top form nearly immediately, holding two match points against Novak Djokovic at the ATP Masters 1000 in Rome.
