Del Potro Targets October Return To ATP Tour
Juan Martin del Potro will return to the ATP Tour in mid October as his rehab from knee surgery continues to go well. The 2009 US Open champion will play the Intrum Stockholm Open (14-20 October) and the Erste Bank Open 500 (21-27 October), in Vienna.
The Argentine has not played since injuring his knee when he slipped on grass at the Fever-Tree Championships at Queen's. He completed his match against Denis Shapovalov but handed Feliciano Lopez a walkover in the second round. The 30-year-old first fractured his right kneecap last October when he fell during a round of 16 match with Borna Coric at the Rolex Shanghai Masters.
Writing on Twitter, del Potro said, "I'm very happy to tell you that I'll play in Stockholm and Vienna in October. These two tournaments are very special to me, as I had the chance to win both of them. See you there!"
The 22-time ATP Tour titlist underwent right knee surgery on 22 June in Barcelona before returning home to Argentina to rehab.
Del Potro won the Stockholm title in 2016-17 and Vienna in 2012.
