Defending champions Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic started their tournament at the Shiseido WTA Finals Shenzhen with another win, while No.8 seeds Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Demi Schuurs sprung a surprise on top seeds Aryna Sabalenka and Elise Mertens.
