Kyrgios Puts Australia Ahead Against Germany
Aussie Nick Kyrgios improved to 2-0 against Jan-Lennard Struff in Brisbane to give Australia a 1-0 lead in their ATP Cup tie against Germany on Friday.
The 24-year-old Kyrgios, Australia's No. 2 singles player, hit 20 aces and won 87 per cent (40/46) of his first-serve points to beat Struff 6-4, 7-6(4), replicating his straight-sets 2018 Davis Cup win against the German.
Struff evened their overall FedEx ATP Head2Head series 1-1 last year in Madrid, but Kyrgios broke once in the opening set and served out the match in the tie-break.
Australia's No. 1 player Alex de Minaur will try to clinch the win for the home nation next as he faces World No. 7 Alexander Zverev, who leads their FedEx ATP Head2Head series 4-0 but was pushed to five sets by De Minaur in Brisbane in 2018.
