Tsitsipas Wins First Of Queen's Club Double Header
Stefanos Tsitsipas completed the first of two matches at the Fever-Tree Championships on Thursday afternoon, with the ATP 500 tournament playing catch-up after two days of bad weather.
Top seed Tsitsipas, who led Kyle Edmund 6-3, 3-3, 30/30 when rain ended play at The Queen’s Club on Wednesday, needed seven match points in a 16-point final game on Centre Court and wrapped up the second set 7-5 with a backhand winner down the line.
The Greek, who is now 33-13 on the season that includes two ATP Tour titles at the Open 13 Provence (d. Kukushkin) and at the Millennium Estoril Open (d. Cuevas), goes on to face France’s Jeremy Chardy later on Thursday.
World No. 30 Edmund, a quarter-finalist at the tournament in 2016, was returning to action after retiring at Roland Garros due to a knee injury earlier this month. He drops to a 6-11 mark in 2019.
