Anderson Receives Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award

The ATP has recognised Kevin Anderson for his contributions off the court by naming him the recipient of the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian Award in the 2019 ATP Awards.

The South African supports a number of charitable causes, including First Serve, an organisation to help under-served children in Palm Beach County; Dezzy’s Second Chance Animal Rescue in South Florida; and Ocean Conservancy’s Trash Free Seas Alliance. Through a previous partnership with Spark Ventures, Anderson also helped to empower children living in extreme poverty in Zambia.

Anderson raised more than $100,000 through Cause for the Paws last December, and recently hosted his third charity event, Courtside Cause, which raised more than $90,000. 

"I think planning this event and being able to give back or bring awareness to needy causes is one of the biggest perks of being a tennis player. Especially this year being away from the court so much with my injuries, having my focus on what we were going to do at the end of the year kept me busy while I was rehabbing and made me really excited for what we would accomplish,” Anderson said. “I feel very lucky tennis has allowed me to do these sorts of things and use my platform to hopefully do a bit of good."

Previous winners of this award include Ashe, former South African President Nelson Mandela, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and 2018 recipient Tommy Robredo.
