Tsitsipas Advances To Third Round As Kohlschreiber Withdraws

Sixth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas advanced to the third round of the Australian Open on Thursday when German veteran Philipp Kohlschreiber withdrew ahead of their match due to a muscle strain.

The Greek star, who won the biggest title of his career at last November’s Nitto ATP Finals, made his Grand Slam breakthrough in Melbourne last year when he advanced to the semi-finals. During that run, he beat 20-time major titlist Roger Federer.

Tsitsipas will next play No. 32 seed Milos Raonic or Chilean Cristian Garin. The 21-year-old has not yet faced former World No. 3 Raonic or World No. 36 Garin. Tsitsipas arrived in Melbourne having lost in the first round of two consecutive Slams. But now the four-time ATP Tour titlist will have a chance to reach the fourth round of a major for the fourth time.
